In 1897, Agathon Leonard had the idea of a suite of ten terracotta dancers in high relief to decorate a dance hall.
These sculptures enthused the artistic director of the Sèvres factory, who commissioned the artist to create a table centrepiece based on this project.
Initially made in biscuit in 1899, the surtout triumphs from 1900. From then on, Susse frères publishes it in bronze, a specimen will be offered by the President of the Republic to the Emperor of Russia.
Our dancer with tambourine, draped in a long dress with fine pleats, is the reflection of the elegance of her time. The series knew a prolonged success since the manufacture of Sevres published it until 1940
