OKUYI PUNU MASK, Gabon Medium-hard wood, pigments. H. 34.5 cm Face with delicate lines, slit and bulging eyes under arched eyebrows in slight relief, straight nose, fleshy mouth pigmented with red. The high shell headdress is combed with fine strands of hair, which can be found on the side braids, in the manner of the women of this region at the beginning of the 20th century. The proportions are well balanced. In the past, this type of mask was used for funeral ceremonies.
