The African photographic album of Mr and Mrs Johnson
A couple of rich American adventurers, Osa and Martin Johnson, organized many expeditions in East and Africa and in Borneo (Dutch Indies) between 1920 and 1945. They presented themselves as wildlife lovers, while trading animal species for zoos and circuses. Their pilot's licenses, their passion for the great outdoors and photography naturally led them to make a few documentaries commissioned by Columbia or Fox. Their feature films and photographic works present a dreamed and romanticized Africa, far from the colonial reality, but which fascinates the Western public.
Lot including:
- A leather album (dimensions: 33x37 cm) with imitation crocodile, of about 80 photographs, film and press images.
- 4 large framed prints of Osa Johnson with his vehicle in the bush.
- 7 books of the couple Johnson published in the United States (Safari, Congorilla, Lion, I married adventure, Camera trails in Africa and Over african jungle).
All in very good condition.
