Zoltán Olcsai-Kiss is a Hungarian sculptor of the XXth century practicing both painting and sculpture. He first trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest where he learned sculpture from Várday Szilárdnál. He was drafted into the army at the beginning of the First World War and only returned to his country in 1921 when he was forced to flee. His situation will make him navigate between Vienna, Prague and Paris. It was in France, where he arrived in 1923, that he organised his first exhibition of porcelain sculptures and figures made for the Manufacture de Sèvres. He did not return to his native country until 1945, where, after the war, he received numerous medals for his work as well as many public commissions. His monuments and his smaller sculptures show the influence of German expressionism relayed in Hungary by artists such as József Nemes-Lampérth and Béla Uitz.
