JEAN-PIERRE GIBRAT MATTÉO Cinquième époque (T.5), Futuropolis 2019 Original plate n° 32. Signed. Acrylic inks and watercolour on paper 37.5 × 49.8 cm (14.76 × 19.61 in.) In this sequence, another moment of complicity between Mattéo and Amélie. With a smile on her face, she is amused by the secret of the identity of Mattéo's father, who is from the village where the troupe has stopped and where it has commandeered the house of a wealthy local patrician, who is fairly Francoist. Here again, a lovely shimmer of light bathes the page, with the sun peeking through a coat of snow with delicate bluish reflections. Gibrat knows how to capture these precious little moments, between dog and wolf, in all their magic. We particularly admire the way the author orients us in the board with his yellow net. "I would be able to sprinkle snow on every page if the scenario allowed me to... as long as we add a light at the end of the day, then we get the little teddy bear of seduction. And if you can add Amélie's mischievous smile, you add freshness, even in the snow, that's saying something! "J-P G.
