Superb original collage by Remedios Varo (1908-1963), dating from her early years.
The Spanish artist was to meet Oscar Dominguez and Marcel Jean in Barcelona the following year. A future companion of Benjamin Péret, she participated in the activities of the Surrealists from that time on. Remedios Varo was to assert herself as a fully-fledged artist during her exile in Mexico City in the 1950s.
"Surrealism claims her as its own", André Breton said of her work in his tribute published in the review La Brèche in December 1964 (Breton, OEuvres
IV, p. 1125).
