"Character". Oil on paper, mounted in a wooden frame. Dim. frame: 156 x 63 cm; subject: 150 x 57 cm. Jean-Marie Heyligen (°1961) has been working in the painting studio of the home André Livemont in Aubechies since 1982. He likes round shapes and has a predilection for nudes and the obese female body, which he places in well-defined planes of the painting. His strange human figures seem to be in permanent mutation as if they were affected by a deforming disease of the features. His works are kept in the Outsider collection in London, in the Musée de la Création Franche in Bègles, in the Musée Art et Marges in Brussels, in the Trinkhall Museum (formerly MADmusée) in Liège or in the Art Brut collection in Lausanne.
