Pair of gilded bronze andirons decorated with heraldic lions on a rocaille base, one signed "Blerzy, doreur rue de la ..." and the other "verrerie, au temps présen".
Louis XV period.
Height : 36,5 cm
Width : 34 cm
Jean Baptiste Blerzy, received Master gilder in 1760.
It is not very frequent to see bronzemakers and a fortiori gilders signing their works.
We know of bronzes signed by Osmond, Gouthière, Saint Germain or Thomire.
Of the guild of gilders, it seems that only Blerzy did it. The Carnavalet museum preserves his business card on which it is indicated that he is "master and merchant gilder and silversmith" established "at the present time, street of the Glass factory, at the corner of that St
Good, at the old Coq lié de Perles".
