Former collection of Claire Motte (1937 - 1986) first dancer, then prima ballerina (1960) of the Paris Opera.
La Sylphide is one of the main romantic ballets, inspired by Charles Nodier's tale, Trilby, which premiered on 12 March 1832 at the Paris Opéra, with music by Jean Schneitzhoeffer (1785 1852) and a libretto by Charles Nourrit (1802 1839). The role of Sylphide was danced by Marie Taglioni, daughter of the Milanese choreographer Filippo Taglioni (1777 1871), in a dress of muslin and crepe petticoats, inaugurating the tutu.
