Ecole Française XIXe siècle Portrait d'un homme en costume, 1839 Huile sur toile, signée et datée en bas à gauche 108 x 81 cm André Revel expose à Paris au Salon entre 1831 et 1842 et il a probablement voyagé en Egypte puisque ses sujets sont souvent des portraits d'arabes, parfois situés à Jérusalem. Il ne faut exclure que ce portrait soit celui d'un occidental (artiste, archéologue ?) habillé à la mode égyptienne, pratique alors courante chez les voyageurs. Revel has probably travelled to Egypt, here painting a friend of him, an archeologist or an artist.
