This model is to be compared to its male counterpart which is the most left on the left relief expressing "the protest of the being against the final destruction" of its famous monument to the dead located at the Père Lachaise cemetery. The fame of the work led to the marketing of copies or fragments. Thus we find many copies in plaster, bronze and stone, numerous studies and fragments of the monument.
A painter until the age of 39, it is nevertheless his sculptures that have built his reputation and marked the history of art.
