Leclerc de BUFFON. Histoire naturelle générale et particulière... Paris, Dufart, An VII (1799). 64 volumes in-8, half tan basane, spines decorated (publisher's binding). Nissen, 682. New expanded edition. Work forming a complete course of Natural History written by Sonnini. The set we present contains the General Materials (21 vols., 47 pl. and 8 folding maps), the Quadrupeds (13 vols., 226 pl.), the Apes (2 vols., 78 (of 79) pl.) and the Birds (28 vols., 256 pl.). These 64 volumes, which represent Buffon's work, are illustrated with 607 (of 608) engraved plates and 8 folding maps. The series should normally include 63 additional volumes for the works of Lacépède, Latreille, Brisseau-Mirbel..., relating to fish, cetaceans, molluscs, crustaceans, insects, plants... Spine rubbed with tears and missing parts on several headpieces, beginning of cracks at the top of some spines, missing a plate of monkeys, reversals of plates and a section in volume 49.
