The model of this group, part of a series on the theme of the labors of Hercules, was originally composed by John of Bologna in 1577, then knew a certain diffusion at first thanks to his pupils Pietro Tacca, Antonio and Giovanni Francesco Susini and then more widely in the first half of the XVIIth century by other workshops in Northern Italy as it seems to be the case for this unpublished version.
