5 L.A.S. "André Masson", 1952-1954 and n.d., to Pierre DESCARGUES, aux Lettres françaises; 5 pages in various formats, 2 on the back of postcards illustrated with address. Tivoli 3 April 1952. He is late: "Turns and detours in Italy are the cause. Writing at this time would be very difficult for me [...]. I am devoured by everything I see here"... Aix Saturday morning [22.XI.1952]. "It is useless to tell you how moved I am by this cruel event [death of Paul ELUARD on November 18]. As soon as I have received your telegram, I will send you the drawing as quickly as possible. It dates from the very first years of our friendship. I hope it will reach you in time. One prayer however: I am very fond of this little drawing, not for aesthetic reasons you think so" ... Aix 25 February 1953. Please deposit at the Gallery Louise Leiris "the portrait of Paul Eluard which I had sent you, and which I think you no longer need"... the Tholonet July 11, 1954. "I am answering your inquiry as accurately as possible. On the other hand, I am writing to Louise Leiris to ask her to entrust you with photographs relating to this period (all that I had kept in this matter having disappeared at the time of the invasion in 1940)"...
