L.A.S. "Marcel Duchamp", Paris December 21, 1936, to Mrs. Alfred BARR; 1 page in-4 (slit in the central fold repaired).
Letter on his watercolour The King and the Queen.
[Addressed to Margaret Scolari BARR (1901-1987), wife of Alfred BARR (1902-1981), art historian and director of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, it concerns a watercolor version of his 1912 painting, The King and the Queen surrounded by nudes (Philadelphia Museum of Art)].
He thanks Mrs. Barr for her card "and the details of the exhibition - I wish you a good and happy 1937. Would you be so kind as to tell Alfred Barr that the Arts Club of Chicago has asked me for the watercolor of the King and Queen (belonging to MAN RAY) for an exhibition beginning February 5 in Chicago. As your exhibition ends on January 17th, I hope that you will be able to have this watercolor sent to Chicago in time for the opening. [...]
Bravo anyway for your dedication to bouillabaisse in general and affectionately to both of you."
