Mstislav Dobuzhinsky is one of the central figures of the Russian art scene in the first half of the 20th century. He is a member of the Mir Iskousstva (The Art World) art group. In his creation, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky works on the pictorial revival of Russian art by synthesizing several artistic forms. He is a painter, illustrator and decorator for Russian ballets. He emigrated to Europe in 1924: to Latvia and then to France, to Paris, where he continued his career as a painter and decorator.
The drawing "Porcelain dolls" in Indian ink (one of the artist's favourite techniques) is a work whose subject is close to Russian folk art, a subject that Dobuzhinsky also addresses in his paintings "Young girls in porcelain" or "Wooden dolls".
