Fishermen, circa 1720-1740
Amazing folded fan, the double sheet of skin painted in brown and grey monochrome of a man holding a fishing rod, catching the spectator's eye. He is wearing a robe of a religious order, perhaps Franciscan. Around him, three young children are wearing the same religious garment. They are all fishing, one for crayfish, the other with a net and the third by raking the sand. A delicate purple border with a bait, crayfish, a hook and a dolphin.
Reverse side showing animals monkeying men. A dog and an owl form a couple under the gaze of a cat.
Very fine ivory frame*. Striped plumes.
H.t. 26.5 cm-H.F. 13.5 cm (accidents, restorations)
