This drawing is preparatory to one of the painted door and window tops representing the works of Hercules in the Salon de la Paix of the former Paris City Hall. It is one of the testimonies of the decoration commissioned from Delacroix and disappeared following the fire caused by the Communards on 24th May 1871.
