Huysmans' funeral. Original period photograph. Paris, May 15, 1907. Laminated on cardboard.
See illustration page 8
Very rare photograph taken on the day of the funeral of Joris-Karl Huysmans, between the Church of Notre-Dame des Champs and the Montparnasse cemetery.
Moving photograph representing a dozen gentlemen, black coats, top hat and umbrella, walking. In the foreground, we see, among others, his great friends: Jean-François Raffaëlli, Gabriel Thyébaut and Henry Céard.
As Paul Léautaud later wrote in his Journal littéraire, on May 15: "Obsèque de Huysmans. - Convoy in the rain. - A real naturalist's funeral." [Volume II, p. 30].
