Virgin of Calvary in ivory carved in the round. The Virgin crosses her hands in front of her chest, her eyes raised, her head slightly turned to the left; she wears a veil hung on the back of her head, a girdled dress with a jewelled neckline, and a coat with one side coming back to the front.
South Germany, 17th century Height: 19,5 cm - Weight: 370 g (right hand formerly redone?)
This Virgin of beautiful quality of execution with its crumpled drapes, whose surface is animated with many folds, seems to be able to be connected with the art of certain ivory workers of South Germany. One thinks in particular of the manner of a Justus Glesker (1610/20 - 1678) or that of a Hans Georg
Fux (1661 - 1706).
