100 years of Larminet Davioud family collections
Son of a horse-drawn carriage manufacturer in Lille, Georges Davioud (1927-2014) made his debut
in the world of antiques, while his father's workshops had given way to a room of
sales. The loss of his two parents, André (1875-1949) and Maria (1887-1947) Davioud-Larminet,
in the post-war years had brought Georges closer to his only remaining Larminet parents, his two aunts...
Jeanne (1882-1971) and Germaine (1885-1962), and her uncle Maurice (1883-1968). Doctor in
theology and scholar of medieval philosophical thought, Maurice, assisted by his sisters, then
took Georges in affection by supporting him on a daily basis for several decades.
Initiated by his uncle Maurice Larminet to religious art, Georges developed a taste for objets d'art. Guided
progressively in the knowledge, the Larminet family bought together with Georges its
first objects in religious statuary. In the post-war period antique dealers were few and far between,
Georges soon became a well-known figure in the Lille region.
Self-taught and wise, he forged, alone, an intuitive knowledge, humbly, by dint of watching,
compare, study, visit churches and museums. Discreet man, his clientele appreciated his maid
mood and seriousness. Constantly singing, tirelessly, curious about everything, he liked to surround himself with
of some beautiful objects, under the benevolent eyes of his wife Bernadette (1926-2005) and the
the loving complicity of his eight children.
