Bird, chandelier ornament, in bronze with brown patina. Head with large almond-shaped eyes, open beak; deeply carved diamond feathers on chest and flat spatula tail; grooves on back for wings; through-hole for hanging rod.
Flanders, 15th century

Provenance: former Guy Onghena collection, Belgium, then by descent
Two comparable birds were in the Irwin Untermyer collection and another specimen is kept at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London with its legs missing (inv. M.6-1930). These small birds formed the tops of some Flemish chandeliers.
