The set we present contains the General Subjects (21 vol., 47 pl. and 8 folding maps), the quadrupeds (13 vol., 226 pl.), the monkeys (2 vol., 78 (of 79) pl.) and the birds (28 vol., 256 pl.).
These 64 volumes, which represent Buffon's work, are illustrated with 607 (of 608) engraved plates and 8 folding cards. The series should normally include 63 additional volumes for the works of Lacépède, Latreille, Brisseau-Mirbel..., relating to fish, cetaceans, molluscs, crustaceans, insects, plants...
Rubbed backs with snags and missing several headdresses, beginning of cracks at the top of some bits, missing a monkey plate, inversions of plates and a notebook in volume 49.
