Louis-Alexandre LELOIR (1843-1884) "Les Fiançailles" Oil on canvas Signed lower right "Louis Leloir" and dated 1878. H: 109 cm; L: 161 cm Description of the work taken from the catalogue of the Charpentier sale of 8 June 1896. "Under a vine arbour, the table for the engagement dinner was set up around which ten guests were gathered, the fiancé stood up and passed a ring on the finger of his future. The foreground is occupied by three musicians, one standing and two seated. In the background on the left, the turrets of the castle can be seen. Also on the left, a bench covered with a tablecloth supports pewter vases and glasses filled with beer. Behind the musicians, the sheaths of their instruments. Signed lower right, Leloir 1878."
