A gouache miniature representing Saint Teresa of Avila in her cell. Visited by the Holy Spirit, she is represented holding a feather, kneeling at the foot of a desk where books and a parchment with a verse from Psalm 88 are placed: "I will sing the mercies of the Lord forever". In front of her is open her work "The Way to Perfection", while at her feet another scroll bears the phrase she had so often on her lips: "or suffer or die".
