In-16 (114 x 77 mm), (8)-102-(2 including the last white) pp., supple garnet grief, smooth spine, gilt title on the first cover, grey linings and box guards, smooth spine folder and flaps of the same leather, bordered slipcase, dark wetness on all the leaves, engravings formerly shaded in ink (Loutrel). Second edition, with reworked text, epistle deleted but preface in original edition. Poem started in 1561 at the request of the king and never pushed beyond these first four books. Two full-page portraits engraved in the text, one of Ronsard, the other of Charles IX. Formerly annotated copy indicating variants with the text of other editions of the 16th century.
