Grand in-4, 269 [including the first 4 white]-(7 including the last 3 white) pp., in sheets with cover, under folder and editor's case a little used with wetness on the case, the whole placed in a white and black percaline box with black grief back with white title pieces lettered in red and black in imitation of the back of the folder. The composition on p. 124 is repeated on the cover, and a detail of that on p. 118 is reproduced enlarged on the folder and on the case. For this illustrated edition conceived on the initiative of André Malraux, Giorgio De Chirico proposed a coherent series of compositions, innovative in his painted work. He had maintained a relationship of mutual admiration and friendship with Apollinaire, whom he had met in 1913 within the group of the magazine Les Soirées de Paris. In 1914, he painted a portrait of the poet, who used it the same year for the frontispiece of his first collection of calligrams, Et moi aussi je suis peintre. For his part, Guillaume Apollinaire defended the art of Giorgio De Chirico with articles that played a decisive role in his career.
