1955 Triumph TR2 Lot n° 6

Ready to hit the road Very nice presentation Mechanics overhauled in 2019 French registration title as historic vehicle Chassis n° : TS6583L In March 1953, after an important work of development on the chassis and the engine, the TR2 will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The car subsequently experienced some improvements and demonstrated its sportiness in renowned competitions such as the Coupe des Alpes or Le Mans. The brand’s objective was achieved, to offer a car that was economical, robust and easy to maintain, but which could offer significant performance. In short, a way to offer an accessible and renowned sports car, directly competing with other English roadsters offered by MG and Jaguar. The American market, Triumph’s main target, quickly took an interest in the cheaper model than its competitors at the time. Weighing less than a ton, the TR2 exudes a maximum of sensations on board. The TR2 will be replaced by the TR3 in October 1955, the latter partly incorporating the elements of its predecessor. The TR2 will have made it possible to launch a long series of sporting English roadsters. Made in only 8,628 copies, it is relatively rare in France, having mainly known the American roads. The TR2 that we present in these pages is no exception to the rule since it originates from the United States. Sold new in 1955, its second American owner will keep it for more than 40 years until the early 2010. After more than 500 hours of work, it was then fully restored and acquired by Harry Howard living in Portland. He separated in 2017 for the benefit of a French collector. The car arrives in France in perfect condition, the restoration work is of high quality. Only flaw, the mechanics seem defective. So its new owner, a classic car accustomed gentleman, contacted the Jacques Levacher garage in St Martin du Tertre and asked him to replace the engine, gearbox and overdrive.
