Large single-faced bronze casting probably made during the Second Empire by foundryman F. BARBEDIENNE. Splendid specimen with its original belly. Gaspard de Coligny (1519-1572), Count of Coligny, Baron de Beaupont et Beauvoir, Montjuif, Roissiat, Chevignat and other places, Lord of Châtillon, Admiral of France, is one of the most famous members of the house of Coligny, which died out in 1694. He was assassinated during the Saint-Barthélemy massacre.
