History: this work was painted after the portrait by Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825), in 1797, which is now in the Museum of Art, Archaeology and Natural Sciences in Troyes. Mrs. Danton was a personality of the French Revolution and the first wife of Georges Jacques Danton (1759-1794).
