The great project of refounding the
Brotherhood of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.
The history of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre is a complex one: beginning in the 12th century, they
has undergone several attempts at institutionalisation, sometimes in competition with each other, particularly in the form of brotherhoods. The one founded by Saint Louis in 1254 lasted until 1792, and included the Princes of the Blood as ex officio members. From 1814 onwards, Count Allemand, General Administrator of the Order of Malta for France, worked to revive this brotherhood: he obtained informal approval from Louis XVIII, but saw his efforts ruined by Chateaubriand's opposition.
A fine copy, printed on heavy vellum, in an elegant leather binding with the arms of the Order of Malta.
