This Aria di camera [CG 480] is by the German baroque composer Johann Adolf HASSE (1699-1783); it dates from 1764. Gounod realized this orchestration in 1884; it was given its first performance on January 10, 1886, at the Châtelet, by soprano Gabrielle Krauss (1842-1906), under the direction of Édouard Colonne, with the French words: 'Ô ma pastourelle', due to the singer Eugénie Vergin, who was to marry Colonne. It was published in 1886 by Henri Lemoine, then sold on January 22, 1890 to Alphonse Leduc for one thousand francs
