BERTRAND Henri (1773-1844) général, Grand-Maréchal du Palais, fidèle compagnon de Napoléon à Elbe et Sainte-Hélène
L.A.S. "Bertrand", Sprotsdorf...
L.A.S. "Bertrand", Sprotsdorf near Sprottau 27 July [1813], to his wife, Fanny BERTRAND; 2 pages in-4 (small single-fold slit, tab).
"Dear Fanny, your letters yesterday had a sadness that pained me, and they were not too reasonable. Take it on you dear
Fanny, don't abandon yourself to your sad ideas, take care of your pretty children and when circumstances will allow us to get together, then we will enjoy it completely" . M. de Fitz [Édouard de Fitz-James, Fanny's brother-in-law] is in awe of their children; Bertrand would enjoy bringing him to more political reason. "When the Emperor has restored the survivors, we can ask him for one for your son, if the place of aide-de-camp is as favorable to him as it is to me, he will not be to be pitied. I think that when you go to the Malmaison, you don't forget to pay my respects to the Empress."...
He approves of her economic decisions... "Believe that I have never loved you more tenderly and that I am always the best husband for you"...
