Memoirs, on his campaigns in Spain, from 1808 to 1814. Written by himself. Paris, Adolphe Bossange, Firmin Didot, December 1828. 2 volumes in-8 and a large Atlas in-folio, long-grained red half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated in gold and cold, blue edges (Binding at the time). Original edition, decorated with a portrait of the author engraved after Horace Vernet, 2 folding paintings in volume II, and an atlas of 16 large battle maps, engraved and enhanced at the time. The Memoirs of Suchet are the most vivid and accurate historical document on the Spanish War. Memoirs written by Suchet in the last days of his life from his official correspondence. A concern for objectivity appears in them: Suchet acknowledges the difficulties that the guerrilla war caused him. His account opens with the Battle of Maria and the siege of Zaragoza, the fighting in Aragon and the investment of Lleida. Chapters X and XVIII on the administration of the occupied provinces (Tulard, 1384) are interesting. Very fine copy, very elegantly bound at the time, with the atlas in uniform binding, a rare condition.
