First edition, decorated with a profile portrait of the Tsar and a view of Taganrog, both lithographed by Senefelder and placed in frontispieces. The journalist and writer Alphonse Rabbe (1786-1825), who is classified as a "little romantic" alongside Xavier Forneret, Charles Lassailly and Pétrus Borel, was a friend of Alexandre Dumas and Victor Hugo. He was a friend of Alexandre Dumas and Victor Hugo. We owe him several historical works on Spain, Portugal and Russia, such as this remarkable Histoire d'Alexandre Ier, considered to be the first biography in French of Napoleon's powerful and tenacious enemy. Precious copy bound with the number of Marie-Louise (1791-1847), former Empress of the French, and coming from her personal library in Parma.
