[DAGUERREOTYPE - NAKED]. Two naked young women lying and embracing on a sofa, one smiling at the photographer, circa 1848. Rare daguerreotype _ plate, made by an unidentified photographer. Size of image (at sight) 11.3 x 15.1 cm. Period glass matting with gilt fillets. 20th century mounting with conservation of the period blue paper on the back : 17 x 21 cm. Blackened wood frame with rounded corners : 24,8 x 29,2 cm. Literature : the French daguerreotype. A photographic object. Catalogue of the exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay. Collective, direction: Quentin Bajac, Dominique de Font-Réaulx. RMN, 2003. Cat. 233, pages 306 and 307. The anonymous daguerreotype, Deux jeunes femmes enlacées vers 1848 from the P. Getty collection, presents many similarities: the models seem the same, the sofa is covered with the same striped fabric, the delicacy of the shooting is of the same artistic sensibility. The format is very similar: 12.2 x 16.3 cm (1/2 plate). It is probably a work made by the same photographer. (Los Angeles, The J. Paul Getty Museum, inv. 84XT.172.6).
