Hugues de BEAUMONT (1874-1947) Presumed to be worn by a young peasant from the Loiret. Original canvas marked by the canvas maker Foulon Foucher in Orléans. 54.5 x 44.7 cm (tiny lacks of gouache at the bottom, strong trace of old wetness on the back of the canvas) Born in Chouzy (Loir-et-Cher) on 26 October 1874, he was a pupil of Gustave Moreau, Théobald Chartran and Albert Maignan. Member of the Committee of the Société nationale des beaux-arts, he won the Troyon Prize of the Institute twice (1895 and 1897). He exhibited at the French Artists from 1892 to 1902, at the Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1902 onwards and took part in exhibitions in Barcelona (1912), Chicago (1919), Wiesbaden (1920), Amsterdam (1926), Brussels and Tokyo (1928). He was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1930.
