KACHAN (Persia), 1st third of the 20th century Framed by two fuchsia vegetal counterborders, the main marine border supports a series of oblong ivory cartouches with Abjad script. The main subject depicts five characters, in a garden, under an apple tree, playing music, dancing and declaiming poems. They are celebrating Noruz, the Persian New Year, where they honour the memory of a great scholar. The answer is certainly to be found in the translation of the inscriptions. 205 x 130cm
