PETRIFIED WOOD SLICE Magnolia sp. Oligocene Barisan Mountains, Sumatra, Indonesia This large superlative slab was cut from a petrified log 35 million year old. The beautiful earth-tone coloration is due to the high iron content in the mineralization process. The preservation is so fine that many of the growth rings have been preserved and are easily visible which adds a dimension of artistic aesthetics to the piece. Unlike most petrified wood from Indonesia, this outstanding example is from a fine-grained wood and has been completely agatized making it suitable to obtain the high polish as seen here. Perfect for use as a tabletop or highly decorative wall mounted display. It measures 4 ¾ x 3 ½ feet (144 x 110 cm).
