White coral
Halomitra pileus
Solomon Islands
H. 81 cm - W. 64 cm - D. 29 cm
This involuntary sculpture is a huge white coral that was broken during transport from the Solomon Islands. As it arrived broken, we decided to keep it the way we discovered it.And even to exacerbate it holding the parts togetherin the right shape. Unusual amongst the family of corals, this species -Halomitra Pileus- is a free-living coral. It means they are not attached to the ground. They are Pale brown, frequently with bright pink or purple margins especially at night when they feed. But their skeletton is a perfect white!
