Signed autograph letter addressed to Misz MARCHAND Saint-Tropez, Le Treille Muscate, s.d. 3 pages in-4 in ink on blue paper. Autograph letter signed addressed to Madame Léopold Marchand. "We've been here three days already. From afar we have heard the sound of bombs and cannons that made here on July 14th. I refuse to see the people who are in Tropez with their cars and boats [...] But I prefer to stay here. It really does make what can be called the best weather in the world. Not a cloud, a bright, fresh breeze, a lightness in the air, that I persist in painting you every year, hoping that you will come... (I have just read, very quickly, the Life of Jesus of Maurois) There are long rains in spring, so everything is green and young. If you read the paper I've just sent to the Journal, don't think the picture of the car, the pussy and the dog are quite accurate! Those elite beasts are delighted. Marigold has a way of throwing herself into the sea which is truly extraordinary, she jumps in with her legs spread apart with an expression of joy and abandonment which I have seen only to her. Butterflies abound. This morning we were walking early on the coastal path, and we came across a turtle, which was taking advantage of the dew. As it was likely to take advantage of the first car I parked it. We see many of them on the side of Dom, at the moment when they suffer, alas, from thirst, in August [...]". In 1919, Colette met the playwright, scriptwriter and dialogue writer Léopold Marchand. They collaborated to adapt Colette's novels Chéri and La Vagabonde for the theatre.
