. Watercolor signed lower left. Dated 1854. Size at sight 33 x 23,5 cm. Frame size 44,5 x 31,5 cm. After having engraved the Scènes de la vie publique et privée des animaux de Grandville in 1842, Pisan then engraved the drawings of Gustave Doré, of which he is the principal and one of the best interpreters. Pisan is considered, notably by Henri Beraldi, as one of the greatest end wood engravers of the 19th century and a major player in the development of tone engraving, characterized by the rendering of halftones. Beautiful watercolour with a country theme.
