Tabiz Carpet (northwestern Iran) mid-20th century.
Quality lambswool velvet on cotton foundation. Decorated with four paintings representative of pilgrimages to four cities, mosques, palaces and monuments : Soltaniyeh, (city near Zanjan and Tabriz) Taq-e Bostan, Mechhed, Chizar where the tomb of Darius the Great is located.
Seven borders, the main one with columns including a swan lake, a scene of hunting wild animals (in homage to the Persian king Bahran, a great hunter), the construction of monuments, representations of Persepolis festivals, lions and stone-bearing figures.
