SAUGET, according to BOUTIGNY. The death of Marshal Lannes Grand pastel and charcoal signed lower right. 106 x 144 cm. Under glass. Wooden frame with cut out and gilded brass trimmings decorated with stars, palmettes and swans. B.E. History : The Emperor joined Marshal Lannes, lying on a stretcher. Behind them, Larrey, who has just had his amputation, and members of the General Staff, including Bessières, who is well recognisable. In the first moments, the amputation was a success. The Emperor wrote to Fouché: "The Duke of Montebello will be even for a wooden leg." It was not, the wound became infected and gangrene took the "Roland de la Grande Armée" on May 31st 1809. He lies in the Pantheon.
