The painting we present is characteristic of both the precepts of Impressionism and Guillaumin's own style. Representing the surroundings of ‘La Creuse', the artist's favorite subject, it is the testimony of a personal reflection on color, which he wants to be intense and exalted but which he softens with a surprisingly luminous touch. The pastel shades are thus blended without being confused, like a desire to pay homage to the work of color by Monet and Renoir, without ever renouncing realism.
