KNEELING WOMAN Culture Jalisco, Western Mexico Protoclassical, 100 BC-250 AD. H. 36 cm - W. 29 cm Light beige and brick-red slip ceramic, ornamental painting black, lightly varnished surface She's shirtless, wearing a simple skirt, hands exaggeratedly developed resting on the thighs. Beautiful body painting running up and down the arms and chest. Head clear of the shoulders showing a very classic face in the Jalisco culture: bulging eyes with a very classic heavy eyelids framing a long straight nose with dilated nostrils, half-opened mouth with lipstick, skull ritually deformed backwards, hair incised.
