Based on a model of the Manufacture of Piat LEFEBVRE - Son, in Tournai. Large rectangular carpet with flat point, in polychrome wool. A cruciform fields, a pink-bottomed, adorned with friezes of leafy rinsings, centered with lyres or floral cheeks and four square stilts, with pale blue or grey backgrounds, a cruciform decoration of crowns and brown and beige medallions adorned with antique crest helmets and laurel branches. The field and the sninters bounded by a ribbon of leaves and flowers stylized in green-yellow on a bronze green background. Centered with a circular medallion, bordered by a frieze of quartefeuilles and braces, with a central rosette surrounded by ten pentagonal quarters on a white, pale blue or grey background decorated with alternating leaves, trophies of arms or horns of abundance faced. Borders with two friezes, one - interrupted on two opposite sides - with spaced patterns of flowered crosses and dots, in green-grey on a beige background; the other consists of interlacing laurel wreaths, floral medallions, leaves and polychrome stars on red, pink and green backgrounds, and square shreds, in a row. 716 x 653 cm. Doubled with a canvas. Past colours, wear, a few stains and holes, including one on the edge, backings and old restorations. From: According to family tradition, this carpet adorned a castle in Belgium at the end of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th century. After the sale of this castle, its owner had given this carpet to one of his French friends. He has remained in his descendants to this day.
