A collection of 41 signed letters, maps and notes, including 38 autographs, 3 typescripts, 1 decorated with a licentious sketch
Rousset-sur-Arc, Reillanne,
Manosque,..., [circa 1947-1959], a set of 80 pages in-4, in-8 and in-12. (Some holes, stains and traces of folds).
A collection of 41 signed letters, maps and notes, including 38 autographs, 3 typescripts, 1 decorated with a licentious sketch from Buffet to
Pierre Descargues and Catherine Valognes, and 17 black and white photographs.
This correspondence began in 1947 with a letter from Buffet giving information about his biography and his work to Pierre
Descargues who wished to write a monograph about him. Two years later, the painter met Pierre Bergé, who became his companion and helped him direct his career. That same year, Descargues marries Catherine Valognes who also joins this correspondence. Thus the number of recipients and senders increases, the tone becomes warm and literature as well as art occupy a central place.
Buffet and Bergé evoke the painter's various artistic projects, such as the illustration for
Les Chants de Maldororor (Paris, 1952) ("At the end of this month, I think I will sign Maldororor's release") or the preparation of his
Exhibitions: "My Exhibition opens on the 2nd as well as a watercolor Exhibition at the Galerie
Visconti (David branch) [...] I am counting on you to make me a paper for these 2
Exhibitions [...]".
This set is enriched with 17 photographs representing the two couples, the different houses of Bergé and Buffet or studio views.
