Braque a: "underwent an operation which was not serious but which earned me a month's bed. Things did not go well and I am very happy to feel free of a disability that had obsessed me for 5 years. I will now go back to work, I have a strong desire to do so". Already trepanned in 1915, he became seriously ill in 1945 and had to stop painting for several months. Daniel Wallard was the regular correspondent of several painters. He watched over them during the Occupation by supplying them with bacon, butter and other products, for which Braque thanked him warmly: "It was just the right time! Thank you. [...] ».
