The work, taken from an invention by Raphael and inspired by the series of the Fable of Love and Psyche, shows the girl struggling with her last and terrible test, necessary to achieve immortality. Sent to the underworld by Venus in the presence of Proserpine, the maiden is caught while begging the Queen of the Underworld to give her some of her beauty.
